Karen is a writer, editor, and writing coach, and the author of Holiness Here (NavPress, 2024) and The Minister’s Wife (Tyndale House, 2020), as well as co-author of Craft, Cost & Call. Her work has appeared in Reader’s Digest, The Walrus, Ekstasis, and Christianity Today, and she previously served as senior editor of Faith Today and co-host of its podcast. Karen has reported on stories from the global Church across Africa, Asia, and North America. She now teaches and coaches writers and is pursuing a Doctor of Ministry in the Sacred Art of Writing at Western Seminary.

He has been a pastor for over 25 years and has a doctorate from Reformed Theological Seminary and a Master of Divinity from Columbia. Adam loves anything outdoors: surfing, fly fishing, and hunting. Adam serves as Vice President for Acts 29, leading church planting, and as a pastor at The Church of Eleven22.

Keeping It Real: Boundaries, Friendship & Being Yourself in Church Planting

Jessica, Jenna, and Stephanie are cohosts of the Pastors' Wives Tell All podcast and coauthors of Pastors’ Wives Tell All: Navigating Real Church Life with Honesty and Humor.

Jessica is a speaker, pastor's wife, and founder of Come Away Missions, a nonprofit serving the people of Rwanda.

Jenna is a creative, photographer, tech wiz, business owner, speaker, and discipleship/worship pastor's wife who brings beauty and a clear message into every project she touches.

Stephanie is an author, speaker, and youth minister's wife who has made it her life's mission to seek out joy amid the junk of everyday life.

Meet the Discussion Group Leaders

Cohort small groups are led by members of Rode Leadership and will take place after each live teaching session at the time you choose. Small Groups are designed to be a supportive, and confidential space where you can process what you're learning and receive encouragement.

What is The Church Planting Wives' Cohort?

Church Planting Wives Cohort is centered around three key components: Teaching, Q&A, and Small Groups.

Weekly Teaching

Weekly Teaching provides a rich opportunity to learn from trusted counselors and ministry leaders. Each session offers biblical wisdom, practical guidance, and encouragement tailored to the unique challenges of ministry life.

Q&A

Each session will include dedicated time for Q&A, allowing participants to engage directly with that week’s featured teacher. This interactive time provides an opportunity to ask questions and gain deeper insight.

Discussion Groups

Get focused discussion on the topic from the most recent teaching, allowing for practical application and deeper reflection. Groups are about building a community of understanding and Christ-centered support, giving you space to breathe, reflect, and be encouraged.

What is The Church Planting Wives' Cohort?

The Church Planting WIves' Cohort is an four-week virtual series designed to support, encourage, and equip counselors.

Each week, we’ll feature a live teaching from incredible speakers, followed by small group discussions led by hand-picked group leaders. This is a space to connect, grow, and be reminded that you are not alone in this journey.

When does the teaching session take place?

The teaching session runs from April 8 – April 29, with weekly live sessions on Wednesdays from 1:00-2:00 PM EST. 

Can’t make it live? No worries! All sessions will be recorded and available to registered participants.

How do the discussion groups work?

Each participant will be in a small group of 3-4, facilitated by discussion group leaders. These groups will provide a safe, supportive, and confidential space for deeper discussion, prayer, and encouragement throughout the week.

What is the WhatsApp large group for?

In addition to your small group, you’ll also be added to a larger WhatsApp community with all cohort members. This is a space for sharing resources, encouragement, and updates throughout the four weeks. While the large group is more general, the small groups are designed for deeper connection and discussion.

Are there confidentiality rules in the groups?

Yes! Confidentiality is a top priority in both the large and small groups. What is shared in the small groups should stay within the group. We ask all participants to honor and respect each other’s privacy so that everyone feels safe to be open and vulnerable. Your cohort leader will send you a confidentiality form to sign. 

Who is this cohort for?

This cohort is for any woman involved in church planting looking for encouragement, support, and community. No matter your husband’s role—whether he’s a lay pastor, executive pastor, worship pastor, elder, or serves in another pastoral position—you are welcome to join. This space is designed to meet you where you are, offering connection and guidance for the unique journey of ministry life.

What if my group doesn’t fill up?

For a new group to be formed, there must be at least 4 participants committed to the same time slot. If your selected time does not fill up, we will give you alternative time options to choose from.

What if I want additional one-on-one support?

All cohort participants receive 10% off individual counseling through Anchored Virtual for 2026. If you’d like personal counseling sessions, you can book with one of their licensed, biblically grounded counselors at any time.

How much does it cost to join?

The cost to participate in the cohort is $275. This includes access to all eight live and recorded sessions, four small group discussions, a 2026 discount on continued counseling and the WhatsApp community.
