Ministry would be a cakewalk if it wasn't for people. The pastor's wife yelled at in the grocery store. The close friend who turned on you. The elder board that's chronically dysfunctional. The husband you watch absorbing blow after blow while you absorb it quietly alongside him. The emotional weight of knowing things you can never say. None of this is unique to you — and none of it comes with a clear place to put it.

• Trust — pivoting back to what you know is true about God, even when it doesn't feel true

He walks through Psalm 13 and Psalm 55 in detail — including the verse about the friend whose words were smooth as butter but whose heart was at war — and shows how lament keeps ministry leaders out of two ditches: the denial that pretends everything is fine, and the despair that concludes it's time to quit.
